In recent years, Kia have become hugely popular in the UK. The rise of the crossover SUV has meant that the Kia Sportage is a common sight on British roads. The success of the Sportage has led to a rise in other Kia models, including the Rio and Optima.
Kia are not only known for their success in the crossover market, they are also well-known for their reliability and their impressive seven-year manufacturer warranty.
Regardless of why Kia are popular, you might be wondering if Kia is the right manufacturer for you.
In this article, we look at Kia lease deals, and think about whether Kia might be right for you.
What Kia lease deals are there?
It should be noted, before we begin, that these lease prices are a rough guide. They are not specific prices and they are not attached to any one leasing company or vehicle broker. Lease deals are subject to change, and things such as mileage, length of the contract and what model you want all can alter the price of a lease.
Therefore, we recommend doing your own research on lease prices. Alternatively, you can contact an independent broker who will do the research for you, and negotiate the best deal for you while they’re at it.
So, let’s have a look at the Kia lease deals.
Kia Picanto
Despite the Picanto being the smallest model in the Kia range, it has a big kit list. It is also spacious and well-made. It competes with the likes of the Ford Fiesta and the Seat Ibiza, and definitely stands its ground. The line-up is simple, starting with 1 and ending with 3, the GT Line is their flagship car. The standard kit is good in the 1 level trim line, including hill start assist, electric front windows, USB and AUX connections and auto headlights. The specification for 2 is better, with air-conditioning, Bluetooth, heated mirrors and rear electric windows. They also come with 14-inch alloys.
If you wanted that little bit extra, then the 3 specification is the specification you want. It comes with 15-inch alloys, door-mounted LED indicators, a seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav with DAB radio and a rear parking camera. It also comes with autonomous emergency braking. The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are three engines available, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder 66bhp, a four-cylinder 1.2-litre 84bhp engine and a turbocharged unit that is set to be launched at the end of 2017. All of the models come with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre does 0-62mph in 14.3 seconds, the 1.2-litre is just two seconds faster.
In terms of running costs, the 1.0-litre emits just 101g/km of CO2 and claims 67.2mpg. If you go for the four-seat version of the Picanto then you can lose 10g/km of CO2 of that number. The 1.2-litre emits 104g/km of CO2.
If we look at size, the Picanto has the best boot size in its class when it comes to laying the seats flat. When the seats are laid flat, then it boasts 1,010-litres of space for you to play with.
If you were to lease a Picanto, then you are looking at upwards of £100 a month if you were to lease through your business on a Business Contract Hire. This varies depending on how much you put down initially and how long you want the contract for. For the top of the range Picanto, then you will be looking upward of around £150, again depending on how much you want to put down initially.
Looking at a Personal Contract Hire, you will be looking at around £120 upwards at the lowest price. Again, this depends on how much you want to put down. For a higher specification you are looking at between £180-£200 for the lowest price.
Kia Rio
The Kia Rio is a stylish supermini that is slightly larger than the Picanto, making it perfect for small families and city drivers alike.Again, like all Kia models, the trims are simple, 1,2 and 3. The entry level trim has a good specification including electric heated door mirrors, Bluetooth, and air-conditioning. Moving up the spec list and you get 15-inch alloys, cruise control and rear parking sensors. You also get a colour touchscreen with DAB radio. If you want more luxury then the highest trim includes faux leather, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as an upgraded seven-inch screen featuring sat-nav. If you want the First Edition, then this includes keyless entry and LED rear lights.
The touchscreen enables you to link up your smartphone and also comes with a voice control function. You can also use the system to create a Wi-Fi hotspot. Looking at engines, there are four you can choose from. The entry-level model gets a 1.25 petrol or a 1.4 CRDi diesel. Trim 2 comes with those engines and a 1.4 petrol and the 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo petrol. The Rio 3 comes with all of those and the 1.4 CRDi diesel.
The entry-level engine emits 109g/km of CO2 and achieves 58.8mpg. The most efficient is the 1.4 CRDi turbo, producing just 92g/km of CO2 and achieves 62.8mpg. The least efficient model is the 1.4-litre which manages 140g/km of CO2.
Of course, the Rio isn’t the largest vehicle on the market, but it does boast a 325-litre boot.
If we’re looking at lease prices, then you are looking at around £120-£130 a month if you put down six months on a 36-month contract. This is the 1.25 1 trim and on Business Contract Hire. If you want a top of the range Rio, then you are looking at upwards of £180.
As a private customer, you would be looking at around £150 a month for an entry-level model. If you were going to go for a higher spec then you could end up paying upward of £250 a month.
Kia Optima
If you are looking for something bigger, a saloon car, then you might be considering the Kia Optima. The Optima is stylish, and is something different if you’re after something that isn’t from one of the main players in the saloon segment. The 1 trim level has been dropped, and the 4 line has been replaced by the Optima GT Line S. The entry level, the 2, comes with 17-inch alloys, a 7-inch touchscreen with sat-nav and dual-zone climate control. The next level up gives you bigger alloys, bigger touchscreen and Lane Keep Assist. The highest trim level gives you a panoramic sunroof with electric blinds and a smart-key that includes a stop/start button.
All trims get cruise control, seat height adjustment and auto-dimming mirrors. There are two engines to choose from including a 1.7-litre CRDi diesel that offers 0-62mph in 10 seconds. There is also a plug-in hybrid version of the Optima, making it appealing to the more eco-conscious readers and businesses thinking about company car tax. The plug-in hybrid offers a 333-mile all-electric range and can achieve 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds.
The diesel engine achieves 67.3mpg and has good emission statistics at 110g/km of CO2. The plug-in emits just 37g/km of CO2.
In terms of boot size, the diesel engine model measures at 505-litres, which is impressive but it isn’t as good as its competitors. You will also sacrifice boot space in the plug-in model, with just 307-litres in total.
If you were to go for the standard Optima diesel model, then you are looking at upwards of £140 a month to lease a Business Contract Hire. The highest level plug-in model is going to set you back upwards of £350 a month. Plug-in hybrids are still considerably more expensive than their standard engine counterparts, though we don’t think it will be long before they do decrease in price.
As a private individual looking at a Personal Contract Hire, then you might be looking at around £170 a month for an entry-level Optima. You will be looking at over £400 a month for the top of the range plug-in hybrid model.
Kia Niro
If you want something that is on the larger side but a bit smaller than the Sportage and is also hugely eco-friendly, then the Niro is the vehicle for you.
The Niro looks good, it is efficient and is very easy to drive. The model is Kia’s first hybrid only model which separates it from the rest of the vehicles in the Kia range. In terms of engines, you can get a petrol-electric hybrid that is a 104bhp Gasoline Direct Injection 1.6-litre petrol engine. The electric motor is 43bhp. The Niro can achieve 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds. The Niro 2 comes with a seven-inch touchscreen and sat-nav system, this upgrades to an eight-inch system in the Niro 3. Instead of the traditional rev counter, there is a 4.2-inch screen with a power meter. It allows you to monitor the energy flow between the batteries, electric motor as well as the engine and wheels. There’s also a graphic of a ‘tree’ that grows as you drive more efficiently. The Niro 3 also comes with a wireless phone charging pad and an eight-speaker JBL sound system.
In terms of space, the Niro has a 373-litre boot capacity which then increases to 1,371 litres when the rear seats are folded. If you are looking at leasing the Niro, then you can get the 1.6 GDi for upwards of around £180 a month on a Business Contract Hire. This increases to upwards of £285 a month for the top of the range Niro.
If you are looking as a private individual, then you are looking at between £210-£220 for the entry level Niro. The top of the range model could be leased for upwards of £350 a month.
Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage is probably the most popular Kia on the market and is a common sight on British roads. It’s great to drive, has a great amount of equipment and is hugely affordable for those looking for a bigger car but don’t want to compromise on price. At this point you probably already know all the trim levels. The four-wheel drive versions, however, come with a more exciting KX in front of them. Regardless of which one you go for, they are all full of great equipment. The entry level models have DAB radio, cruise control and air-conditioning. The trim up includes a touchscreen sat-nav and the level 3 trim comes with reversing camera and a premium sound system. The top of the range model comes with autonomous emergency braking, cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring. The GT line, the sportier Sportage, comes with ‘ice-cube’ style fog lights and black leather in the interior. There are four engines to choose from, starting with a 1.6 GI petrol. The 1.7 CRDi leads the Sportage range in terms of efficiency achieving 61.4mpg and 119g/km of CO2.

They are hugely popular to lease, and that means that they are considerably more affordable than many people think. The Sportage, despite it being one of the larger vehicles, is very affordable. This makes it a very appealing option for families and for businesses.
Kia, as we have mentioned, are very generous with their standard equipment, which means you won’t have to fork out more money on extras such as infotainment systems.
Another huge selling point is Kia’s generous warranty. They offer a 100,000 mile/seven year warranty for all of their vehicles. The standard warranty on most models is three years, so this makes Kia very appealing for families and businesses alike.
